SIT Student Association

The SIT Student Association is the recognized collective voice of the students.

The purpose of SITSA shall be:
1. Advocate for the SIT student body on such issues as student programs, student life, diversity and community.
2. Plan and/or implement and/or finance a varied program of student activities (in collaboration with DOSS when appropriate)
3. Ensure continuity of student representation, i.e work toward achieving progress on long-term or repeated concerns voiced in previous years by SITSA or other representative student organizations.
4. Responsibly disperse budget.

April 2 Minutes

MINUTES OF THE SITSA MEETING DATED 04/02/2010
VENUE: BOYCE BUILDING
TIME: 12h40pm

Brittany Smith chaired the meeting.

1.Updates:
Maegan had stepped down and the chairperson would still make a follow up on the minutes Maegan had.
Joseph Mukoroli sent his apology since he had a group meeting scheduled at the same time as SITSA.
Kirstin was introduced and welcomed again because SITSA meeting had only 5 members present in the previous week.
Brittany briefed the rest of the members with what transpired in the last sitting

2.SJ Mediation Request was done by Libby who indicated that their neighborhood contacted among others SLM and SD. She stated that though, there would be less contributions, she appreciated. Libby also said that she would thank if she would know the decision made so that they could start planning and functioning. She promised that there would maximum participation.
Deborah Lake (IE Rep) and Jess (MAT Rep) advised Libby to contact their neighborhood; they were willing to contribute to the funding provided Libby email IE and present her case at the MAT community meeting dated April 15th.

3.It was noted that SITSA would fund the end of the year party scheduled May 8th.

4.Rachel was able to raise funds and was not ready to withdraw request until the next week.

5.Jason announced that SITSA’s balance was $2230. Still on the same note, Tony indicated that there had been $500 not fully used for SIT vans during the TESOL conference. Meaning, the remaining amount would be returned to the SITSA funds. It was clearly stated that SITSA would then give SJ mediation $600 instead of $950 requested, especially because it was questionable if there would be enough participation.

6.Brittany gave a brief explanation on the reasons for SITSA wanting to hold town-hall meetings in relation to topics such as racism on campus, PIM and MAT and January and Fall students’ orientations.

7.It was voted that SJ Mediation would receive $600 as a final amount.

8.The meeting was officially declared closed by the chairperson.
